Casualty bleeding control in deployed settings like Role3 or Role2 medical support lines or remote located naval units requires continuous supply with lifetime-limited blood products. The resulting logistics efforts are expensive and hard to organize without interruption. For the use of available therapeutic alternatives like factor concentrates (Fibrinogen, FXIII, FVIIa), lyophylized plasma, or cryopreserved platelets, prior identification of the causing bleeding disorder is needed to enable targeted therapies and to avoid thrombotic complications.

ROTEM® diagnosis can identify acute traumatic coagulopathies within minutes and enables targeted therapy with both, blood products and related substitutes. It has been proven to reduce the amount of applied blood products in several kinds of surgery including trauma. Accordingly, near-patient application of ROTEM® analysis in deployed settings has also a high potential to substantially reduce the logistics burden of long-distance blood product supply.
