As a result of the ongoing long-term engagement of allied ISAF troops in Afghanistan, numerous national military hospitals have been established in the area today. These fixed Role3 positions provide high-level medical support and facilitate conventional hospital standards like air-condition, continuous power supply, and sufficient space for required diagnostic equipment. Similar environments can be provided nowadays also by advanced air-shipped field hospitals. ROTEM® Delta systems have been successfully tested in such settings by the British forces at Camp Bastion (Lashkar Gah, Helmand Province). This demonstrates that advanced bleeding management by ROTEM® can also be employed in medical field operations, generating similar benefits as proven for its civil hospital use. Main resulting advantages are early control of casualty haemorrhage, guidance for blood product transfusion, and resulting reductions in blood product consumption. Besides ISAF soldiers, also civil terror casualties would mainly benefit from advanced bleeding management in this conflict area. |
